BIOS Firmware Update Required in Call of Duty MW4

BIOS Firmware Update Required is a Secure Attestation Wizard result, not a fail: your BIOS firmware meets the minimum security requirements, but Activision recommends updating it and says it may be required in the future. Check your TPM version below to see if yours is one that needs it.

Last updated Game version: Launch (October 23, 2026)

Does your TPM firmware need the update?

Press Windows key + R, type tpm.msc and press Enter. Under TPM Manufacturer Information, read the Manufacturer Name and the Manufacturer Version.

Type the four numbers, for example 3.92.0.5.

What “BIOS Firmware Update Required” means

It is one of the results the Call of Duty Secure Attestation Wizard shows after its scan. The wizard found that your BIOS firmware meets the minimum security requirements, but Activision recommends a BIOS firmware update, and says it may be required in the future. The other results, such as TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot not enabled, are the ones that fail the check; this one is a warning about what may come next.

Activision also points to the BIOS when TPM 2.0 is on but Call of Duty keeps asking for it: a motherboard can need a firmware update before the game accepts its TPM. What each wizard result means, and how to run the scan, is in our guide to the Call of Duty Secure Attestation Wizard.

The TPM versions Activision names

  • AMD (AMD 3.*.0.*): Activision says AMD TPM firmware with a Manufacturer Version of 3.*.0.* (any numbers in place of the stars) is not compatible with the Call of Duty games that check it and needs a firmware update. For example, 3.92.0.5 needs the update and 3.92.5.5 is fine. The enrollaik.exe prompt keeps coming back even after you select Yes.
  • Intel (INTC 302.12.*.* or 303.12.*.*): Activision says Intel TPM firmware with a Manufacturer Version of INTC 302.12.*.* or INTC 303.12.*.* (any numbers in place of the stars) may need a firmware update.

Press Windows key + R, type tpm.msc and press Enter. Under TPM Manufacturer Information, read the Manufacturer Name and the Manufacturer Version. Ask your motherboard or PC maker's support whether a firmware update is available for your model.

How to update your BIOS

  1. Find your model: press Windows key + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter. BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product are your motherboard; on a laptop or prebuilt PC, System Manufacturer and System Model. BIOS Version/Date is the BIOS you have now.
  2. Open your maker's BIOS page from the table below and find your exact model.
  3. If the newest BIOS there is newer than yours, download it and follow the maker's own update guide, step by step.
  4. After the update, check that TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are still on (tpm.msc and msinfo32): an update can put BIOS settings back to their defaults.
  5. Run the wizard again.

Before you start: Activision warns that wrong UEFI/BIOS changes can stop a PC from starting, says to follow the motherboard maker's own instructions, and suggests asking the maker or a professional if you are unsure.

BIOS update pages by maker

The pages Activision's help article links for BIOS and firmware updates. If your maker is not here, go to its support site directly.

When a BIOS update cannot fix it

Two cases where even the newest BIOS does not help:

  • A Ryzen 1000, or a Ryzen 2000 without integrated graphics, on AM4. On an AMD AM4 PC with a Ryzen 1000 series CPU, or a Ryzen 2000 series CPU without integrated graphics, AMD does not currently offer TPM firmware that meets the game's requirements, so a BIOS update cannot bring it up to date for now. (ASUS's support article on this message)
  • AMD fTPM 3.*.0.* with no newer BIOS from your maker. AMD fixed the fTPM 3.*.0.* firmware in TPM firmware it gave motherboard makers in 2022, but some makers chose not to pass that update on. If your board's maker has no newer BIOS with it, the BIOS route is closed.

Check your PC

  1. Your CPU: press Windows key + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter, then read Processor.
  2. Your TPM firmware: tpm.msc shows the Manufacturer Version, or open PowerShell as administrator, type Get-Tpm and press Enter: ManufacturerIdTxt is the maker and ManufacturerVersion the firmware version.
  3. Read an AMD version against AMD's article PA-420, which covers Ryzen 1000 to Ryzen 5000 series desktop and notebook processors:
AMD ManufacturerVersionTPM attestation
3.*.0.*Fails attestation
3.*.2.*OK
6.*.*.*OK

The way out

  • A newer CPU. Many AM4 motherboards also take Ryzen 5000 series CPUs after a BIOS update. Your board maker's CPU support list says which CPUs fit and the BIOS version each one needs: install that BIOS first, while the old CPU is still in.
  • A separate TPM chip. A separate TPM chip on the motherboard (dTPM) works too. It plugs into the TPM header on the motherboard, if yours has one; the board's manual names the module that fits and the BIOS setting that switches from the firmware TPM to it.
  • If you use BitLocker, suspend it before a TPM firmware update: AMD warns the update can clear the TPM, and the PC may then ask for your BitLocker recovery key when it restarts.

Still getting Failed Attestation Status?

  • On a Lenovo PC that fails attestation, Activision asks you to open a ticket with Lenovo Support for your exact model, which provides the right BIOS firmware update for each device; do the same if you already updated the BIOS and still fail.
  • If you did every step and still get a Failed Attestation Status, Activision asks you to send a TPM incompatibility report from its help article; the reports help its engineers and hardware makers fix BIOS firmware.

Every other message, and how to check TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, UEFI and GPT yourself, is in our MW4 failed attestation fix. The rest of the PC specs are on the MW4 system requirements page.

Questions

What does BIOS Firmware Update Required mean in Call of Duty?

It is a result of the Call of Duty Secure Attestation Wizard. The wizard found that your BIOS firmware meets the minimum security requirements, but Activision recommends a BIOS firmware update, and says it may be required in the future.

Can you play MW4 with BIOS Firmware Update Required?

This result on its own is a recommendation, not a fail: the wizard says your firmware meets the minimum. If MW4 still says Failed Attestation Status, another result in the scan, such as TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot not enabled, is what keeps you out.

How do I know if my TPM firmware needs an update?

Open tpm.msc and read the Manufacturer Version. Activision says AMD TPM firmware with a Manufacturer Version of 3.*.0.* (any numbers in place of the stars) is not compatible with the Call of Duty games that check it and needs a firmware update. For example, 3.92.0.5 needs the update and 3.92.5.5 is fine. Activision says Intel TPM firmware with a Manufacturer Version of INTC 302.12.*.* or INTC 303.12.*.* (any numbers in place of the stars) may need a firmware update.

Can a BIOS update fix it on a Ryzen 1000 or 2000 CPU?

Not for now on some of them. On an AMD AM4 PC with a Ryzen 1000 series CPU, or a Ryzen 2000 series CPU without integrated graphics, AMD does not currently offer TPM firmware that meets the game's requirements, so a BIOS update cannot bring it up to date for now. A newer CPU, or a separate TPM chip if the motherboard takes one, is the way out.

Where do I get the BIOS update?

From the support page of your motherboard maker, or your PC maker for a laptop or prebuilt PC, for your exact model. Activision's help article links the BIOS pages of Acer, ASRock, ASUS, BIOSTAR, Colorful, Dell, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo, MSI.

Does Warzone or Black Ops 7 show the same message?

Yes. The same wizard checks every Call of Duty game that needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Black Ops 7 and Warzone need them too, but there a PC that misses them is only kept out of some modes and playlists, such as Ranked Play, and may be matched with other such players.
