What is MW4 DMZ?
DMZ is the extraction mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, one of its three modes next to the Campaign and Multiplayer. You infil Hajin solo or with a squad, loot, take on missions and then reach an exfil site to leave with what you found; fail, and you lose whatever is not protected. AI forces and rival player squads share the map, so DMZ is both PvE and PvP.
DMZ is not a separate free game: it comes with Modern Warfare 4, so you need MW4 to play it. Between runs you build up your Forward Operating Base and level up; the DMZ beginner's guide walks through a first deployment, and the MW4 DMZ FAQ answers the common questions on platforms, solo play and what you keep.
The MW4 DMZ map at a glance
The MW4 DMZ map is Hajin, the Exclusion Zone for DMZ in Modern Warfare 4: a region where Russia, North Korea and South Korea meet, left full of abandoned weapons and military technology after the campaign. Activision describes 13 major points of interest and says the zone has more than 60 named locations in total. Our full list of Hajin map locations covers all 13 with every named area and its threat level.
The west of the map is the former North Korean side: rural, wooded and military, with the 14th Political Prison, Chang-san Air Base and Deadtown. The east holds Hajin City, from NuriGO Mall and The Grid down to Wolves Stadium, with Songdo Wharf on the coast and the irradiated Haneul Nuclear Reactor in the northeast. The Hajin River crosses the north of the map and reaches the sea near the reactor. From Season 1, Hajin is also a Warzone Battle Royale map: see Hajin in Warzone. Our MW4 updates page follows every season and patch.
Everything else on the official Hajin Tac Map
On October 19 Activision put its own interactive Hajin Tac Map online. Besides the 13 major points of interest it marks 22 named areas, 7 Fortresses, 6 enemy Compounds, 5 Lieutenant Towers, 14 UAV Towers and 28 Ammo Armor Caches, plus 5 Police Stations, 6 Fire Stations, 7 Clinics, 18 Gas Stations and 6 Marine Gas Stations. They are all on the map above: switch each kind on or off under “From the official Tac Map”, and click a marker to see what it is and the closest major location.
Fortresses: The Citadel (14th Political Prison), Heavenly Luck Casino (Cheongun Village), Mirae General Hospital (Mirae General Hospital), Admin Complex No. 2 (Chang-san Air Base), Re-Education Center (Deadtown), Rice Mill (Imjin Farmland) and NuriGO Mall (NuriGO Mall). Named areas: Russian Border Crossing, Russian Border Crossing (East), Tong-il Village, Pyonghwa Village, Namjin Riverside, South Island, Cheongun Outskirts, Imjin Suburb, Mujin Pass, Daesong Ridge, Oamsik Turtle Islands, NuriGO West, Shoreline Station, NuriGO East, DBN Headquarters, Hanex Bank, Construction Zone and Songdo Pier. Jayon Warehouses, Russian Border Crossing (West), Hanrim Village and Revolution Dam lie beyond the top edge of our map. Our Hajin map locations page groups every marker under its closest major location.
A guide to each Hajin location
Every major location has its own page with a close-up of the map, the threat level of each area, the markers around it and its nearest neighbors: 14th Political Prison, Chang-san Air Base, Deadtown, Imjin Farmland, Cheongun Village, Mirae General Hospital, Cheonwang Peak Array, Haneul Nuclear Reactor, NuriGO Mall, The Grid, Songdo Wharf, Wolves Stadium and Hajin River Heights.
Where to start, and where not to
Places that start at a Low threat level everywhere: Mirae General Hospital, Songdo Wharf. The only areas listed at Extreme, the highest level, are the Air Base Bunker in Chang-san Air Base and the Nenshin Tech Complex in The Grid. Fighting raises an area's threat, and calm returns when you break contact. Our guide to DMZ threat levels and enemy types explains what each level sends after you, and the DMZ beginner's guide walks through a first deployment from the FOB to exfil.
How this MW4 DMZ map is made
This MW4 DMZ map is Activision's official Hajin tactical map from the DMZ deep dive, cropped to the map itself, with our markers placed on its point-of-interest icons. The in-game Tac-Map uses a grid with letters from west to east and numbers from north to south; Activision's example is that D7 is Imjin Farmland, and every key in DMZ names a grid square in its description. Keys and missions go on the map cards as they are confirmed, as gold and teal badges on their place. Exfils follow once they are confirmed. Keys confirmed so far are in our DMZ key finder. Story Missions and DMZ Orders confirmed so far are in our DMZ missions checklist.
MW4 DMZ map questions
Where does MW4 DMZ take place?
In Hajin, the Exclusion Zone of Modern Warfare 4 where Russia, North Korea and South Korea meet. The west of the map is the former North Korean side; the east holds Hajin City and the coast.
How big is the MW4 DMZ map?
Activision has not given a size in square kilometres or miles. It describes 13 major points of interest and more than 60 named locations, and its official Tac Map marks 124 smaller places, from police stations to gas stations.
Where is the casino on the MW4 DMZ map?
The Heavenly Luck Casino is in Cheongun Village, in northern Hajin, at grid F4 on the Tac-Map. The village is Low threat, the casino High. 3 keys open rooms inside it: Counting Room Vault, Vault Armory and Jin-Tae's Private Lounge.
How does the grid on the MW4 DMZ map work?
Letters run from west to east and numbers from north to south, so every square has a name such as D7, which Activision's own example gives as Imjin Farmland. Every key card names the square its door is in; the table of locations on this page lists them by place.
Where are the exfils on the MW4 DMZ map?
They are not fixed: each match picks its exfil sites from a pool of places and marks them with green smoke. The map shows the possible exfil site confirmed so far as green triangles, and more go on as they are confirmed.
Can I plan a route on the MW4 DMZ map and share it with my squad?
Yes. Open a place on the map and press "Add to my run", or search for a crafting material and add every place it is found. Your stops get numbers and a dashed route line on the map. Move them up or down, tick each one off as you go, and press "Copy link for your squad": the link opens this map with the same stops in the same order. The run is saved in your browser, with no account.
How do I find where a crafting material is on the MW4 DMZ map?
Type its name in the search box above the map, for example CPU or Nylon Cloth. The places named in the game's Ingredient Locations hint for it get a gold dashed ring, and the hint shows under the map with a link to the full guide. 16 of the 26 materials are tied to major places on the map; the rest come from containers, bags or commanders, and the crafting materials list says where.
What do the colors and symbols on the MW4 DMZ map mean?
The map key sits right under the map. Each place's ring takes the color of its highest threat level, from Low up to Extreme; white marks the place you selected. A gold badge counts the confirmed keys whose door is at that place and a teal badge its missions, while a green triangle is a confirmed exfil site. The markers from the official Tac Map, from police stations to gas stations, switch on and off under "From the official Tac Map".
Can I mark the keys I have on the map?
Yes. Tick a key in its place card on the map, or in the key finder, then switch on "Only places for my keys" to see just the places your keys open. A green dot on a key badge means you have one of its keys. The ticks stay in your browser.
