Is MW4 DMZ free to play?

No, not at launch. DMZ is one of the modes of Modern Warfare 4, and Activision says you have to buy the game to play it; MW4 joins Game Pass in Holiday 2027. Activision has not announced a free-to-play version of DMZ.

With Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026, at midnight local time. Digital pre-orders get DMZ Early Access from October 20, 2026 at 10 AM PT.

Activision has not announced the date yet. The Battle Pass and BlackCell start with Season 1, and Hajin joins Warzone as a Battle Royale map.

Which platforms is MW4 DMZ on?

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC: Battle.net, PC: Steam, PC: Xbox app (Xbox on PC), Nintendo Switch 2. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version in Activision's list.

Why does MW4 on PC say Failed Attestation Status?

Your PC did not pass Call of Duty's security check. Activision says MW4 on PC needs both TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and a PC without them cannot play any online mode, DMZ included.

Can you play DMZ solo?

Yes. Activision says you can infil solo or with a squad, and the Stealth Meter was made to help solo players in particular: it warns you before an AI enemy spots you.

Which editions get DMZ Early Access?

Digital pre-orders and pre-purchases of the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition, on every platform. DMZ Early Access starts on October 20, 2026 at 10 AM PT.

Does MW4 have Zombies?

Activision has not announced a Zombies mode for Modern Warfare 4. Its PC post names three modes, Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, and DMZ's enemies in its posts are AI soldiers, bosses and rival players, not zombies.

Is there a PvE-only DMZ mode?

Activision has not announced one. In its posts every deployment shares Hajin with other squads and solo players, who decide for themselves whether to fight. A Ping Wheel lets you offer another squad a truce.

How do you get more Operator slots?

You start with 2 Active Duty Operator slots and unlock one more by raising your DMZ level. The Vault Edition starts you with 3. Activision has not said whether more slots can be bought.

What is the DMZ map called?

Hajin, an Exclusion Zone where Russia, North Korea and South Korea meet. Activision describes 13 major points of interest and says there are more than 60 named locations in all.

What do you keep if you die in DMZ?

You keep the DMZ XP you earned in the run; Activision says there is no XP penalty for dying. You lose the gear you carried, except items in a Secure Slot. Your Operator goes Missing in Action and can be rescued with DMZ Cash, Traits intact, or dismissed.

What is the max level in DMZ?

DMZ has its own progression from level 1 to 70, separate from the normal player levels. Each Operator also levels a Dog Tag to earn up to 18 Trait Points, and can then Prestige.

Does DMZ XP count toward your player level?

Activision says Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and Side Ops earn both Global Player XP and DMZ XP, and that you keep XP even when you die. DMZ also has its own level track from 1 to 70. It has not said anything specific about Early Access progress.

Is there a limit on how much DMZ Cash you can keep?

Yes. Activision mentions that your Bank can be capped at its maximum saved funds, but it has not published the number. Cash you carry during a run is only added to your Bank after a successful exfil.

Does weapon progress carry over between DMZ and Multiplayer?

Yes. Activision says weapon progression tracks across Multiplayer and DMZ. The DMZ Gunsmith sells 32 weapons at launch once you have found their Weapon Manuals.

What are the Mastery Camos in MW4 DMZ?

In DMZ they are Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio, the names shown in Activision's DMZ Mastery Camo Showcase video. Every mode has 3: Multiplayer's are Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged and Orion Reforged, and Call of Duty: Warzone's are Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros. A fourth video shows a Prestige set: Pyroclast, Pyroclast Verge, Pyroclast Scatter and Pyroclast Cascade. The videos are from before launch and do not say what unlocks each camo.

Will Hajin be a Warzone map?

Yes. Call of Duty said in August 2026 that Hajin will be the new Battle Royale map from Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4. Vehicles there will not need repairs or fuel, unlike in DMZ.

How is DMZ different from Warzone?

DMZ is an extraction mode: you drop into Hajin, fight AI forces and rival squads, and keep only what you get out with. Fail to exfil and you lose the gear you carried, except what is in a Secure Slot. Call of Duty: Warzone is the Battle Royale, and Hajin becomes its map from Season 1. Some things are shared: each weapon's Camo Track moves forward in Multiplayer, DMZ and Call of Duty: Warzone, and the Aston Martin Dreadnought turns up in both DMZ and Warzone.

How a DMZ run works, from the FOB to exfil

Can you keep keys between runs?

Yes, if you get out with them: Activision lists Keys among the items you can store in your Stash between deployments. Anything in your backpack outside a Secure Slot is lost when an exfil fails. Whether keys have a limited number of uses has not been announced.

How is this DMZ different from the one in Modern Warfare II?

Activision has not published a full comparison. It says the new DMZ builds on player feedback from the original DMZ Beta, and calls some systems new, such as the Tourniquet for healing without a self-revive and the MIA system for rescuing lost Operators.

Is there PvP in DMZ?

Yes. Other squads and solo players deploy into the same Hajin server. Killing players builds a Bounty; after 4 player kills you become Wanted, and other players can hunt you for DMZ Cash. Proximity chat lets you talk to rival players nearby, or mute them.
