What is X01?
X01 is a second DMZ location, next to Hajin rather than in place of it. A weapons facility nobody knew about, built by the Russians and thought to be a GRANIT Arms black site, around a hidden weapons assembly line. North Korean forces have taken it. Just outside Hajin's border, near North Korea's northern border. You deploy into it through Hajin, at an infiltration point found on that border.

| Inside | Sealed off from the outside: dim passageways, tunnels and linked chambers over several floors, with ways up and down between them. |
| Enemies | Troops and specialists of North Korea's 100 Spirits faction, which Activision says are better not fought head-on; stronger enemies that patrol the interior; and rival Operator squads. |
| Watcher | Ghost. He talks your squad through X01, tracks the route, warns of new threats and hints at what is left as each area opens, with several new pages of DMZ Orders. |
| Getting out | The facility closes exfil points as the match goes on. You complete the steps it asks for to escape, so always know where the nearest exfil is. |
| Loot | Equipment you cannot find anywhere else in DMZ, with a chance of rare finds on every deployment. The deeper sections hold unfamiliar tools, intel and gear made for the threats inside. |
Places inside X01 Activision has named
- Cargo bays
- Vehicle depots
- Underground labs
- Production lines
- The Deep Vault, which is sealed
Activision also mentions “more surprising locations” around the weapons assembly line, without naming them.
Still classified
Activision marked these [CLASSIFIED] in its Season 1 post: the new enemies, the new items, the new equipment, the change to the 3D Printer. We add each one here once Season 1 is live and it can be checked in the game.
New bosses in Season 1
Season 1 adds two Commanders and two Lieutenants to the Boss Board at the FOB, next to the launch bosses (Bale, Jin-tae, The Doctor, Iskra, Gorani, The Warden, Roze, Jang-ui, Scavenger, The Chemist, Colossus, Deathstalker, Main NK Battle Tank) on our MW4 DMZ boss tracker.
| Boss | Type | What Activision has said |
|---|---|---|
| The Captain | Commander | A Juggernaut with his own elite guard. A Threat Briefing event sends you into X01 to fight him for sections of his helmet. |
| Wheelson | Commander | An autonomous Wheelson that patrols on its own. Activision has not said where. |
| KnuckleTae-Hyun | Lieutenant | A new Lieutenant on the Boss Board, where you buy intel on him. Activision has not said where you meet him. |
| The WrenchChol-Min | Lieutenant | A new Lieutenant on the Boss Board, where you buy intel on him. Activision has not said where you meet him. |
Season 1 DMZ events
The first part of Season 1 runs these DMZ events, in Hajin and in X01:
| Event | Where | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Threat Briefing: The Captain | X01 | Find The Captain in X01, fight him and take sections of his helmet. The rewards grow, and you get them when you exfil. |
| Threat Briefing: Battle Tank | Hajin | Fight the North Korean main battle tank and pull off one tank part per deployment. The more parts you bring back over your deployments, the better the reward. |
| Resupply Run | Points of interest | Find particular items at different points of interest and trade them for high-value items such as Self Revives and 3-Plate Carriers. |
In both Threat Briefings, when one squad member exfils with a part taken from a Commander, the whole squad gets the credit. More Threat Briefings and Commander Hunts come later in the season.
New at the FOB
- Battle Pass and Store Station: A new station next to the Survival Kit Station, for the Season 1 Battle Pass, BlackCell and Store Bundles.
- Vendor: Sells more weapons and gear for DMZ Cash, if you own Season 1 BlackCell.
- 3D Printer: Changes in Season 1; Activision has not said how.
Until then, our 3D Printer recipes and FOB upgrades pages show what the base does now.
How to get ready before November 6, 2026
- Bring a squad. Activision says the back-up of your squadmates may be the only reliable edge in X01's tunnels. If you play alone, our DMZ solo guide covers what changes.
- Clear your Orders. Ghost's X01 Orders come as new pages; the 21 pages out now are on our DMZ Orders checklist.
- Find the battle tank. Its Threat Briefing is in Hajin, and our boss tracker lists it with the other Commanders.
- Know your exits. X01 closes exfils as the match goes on, so practise reading the exfil markers on our interactive Hajin map first.
Season 1 outside DMZ
The same update brings Hajin to Warzone as a Battle Royale map (see our Hajin Warzone map), new weapons and a 100-tier Battle Pass. Everything Activision has announced for Season 1 is on our MW4 updates page.
What we add on November 6, 2026
- A map of X01 with its areas and exfils.
- The keys, loot and Ghost's Orders, as we confirm them in the game.
- Where to find The Captain, Knuckle and The Wrench, on our boss tracker.
