MW4 Vault Edition vs Standard: Which to Buy

The Vault Edition is the full game plus two Operator packs, five weapon blueprints, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus; it is digital only. The Digital Standard Edition is the full game, and both digital editions get Campaign Early Access on October 16 and DMZ Early Access on October 20 when pre-ordered. The disc gets neither. MW4 is not on Game Pass at launch, so MW4 DMZ is not free either: any edition gets you in.

Upgrading from Standard to Vault

A Digital Standard Edition can be upgraded to the Vault Edition later, on the same platform where you bought it.
The upgrade costs $30 US (or the regional equivalent).
Physical pre-orders cannot be upgraded.
The loyalty discount does not apply to upgrades.

The 10% loyalty discount

10% off the Vault Edition only, for digital pre-orders and pre-purchases made before October 23, 2026.
You must own and have played a qualifying Call of Duty (any edition), on the same platform and with the same platform account you use for MW4. It also counts if you played one through a current Game Pass Ultimate, Premium or PC plan, or got one as a PlayStation Plus monthly game.
The discount should show in the store before checkout.

What is in the MW4 Vault Edition?

The full game plus the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, the Signature Weapon Collection (five blueprints), one season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. Pre-ordered, it also gets Campaign and DMZ Early Access, the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack and the Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint.

What does the MW4 Vault Edition give you in DMZ?

Activision's FOB guide lists three extras. You start with 3 Active Duty Operator slots instead of 2. You get a Vault Edition Deployment Kit: 2 Weapon Insurance Contracts, 2 Operator Rescue Beacons, 2 Fulton Drop Markers, 2 Medium Backpacks and 2 2-Plate Carriers. And the Signature Weapon Collection blueprints are in your DMZ inventory once; if you lose one in a deployment, the Gunsmith sells it back at a discount. The pre-order post had promised Vault owners extra DMZ content, a Deployment Bonus, at launch.

What is the MW4 pre-order bonus?

Digital pre-orders and pre-purchases of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition get Campaign Early Access from October 16, DMZ Early Access from October 20, Hunter Killer Operator Skin, Gilded Pearl Camo Pack (Moonlit Pearl and Gilded Ruin universal camos) and Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint. The disc gets none of these.

Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?

Not at launch. Activision has said MW4 will not be part of Game Pass when it comes out on October 23.

Does the physical edition get early access?

No. Campaign Early Access (October 16) and DMZ Early Access (October 20) are for digital pre-orders and pre-purchases of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition. Physical pre-orders only got a code for the Open Beta.

How much is the upgrade from Standard to Vault?

$30 US, or the regional equivalent, on the same platform where you bought the Digital Standard Edition. Physical copies cannot be upgraded, and the loyalty discount does not apply to the upgrade.

Who gets the 10% loyalty discount?

Players who own and have played a Call of Duty from Modern Warfare (2019) onward on the same platform account. It takes 10% off the Vault Edition only, for digital pre-orders before October 23, 2026.

Is MW4 on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. Modern Warfare 4 is not coming to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
