How to open the Irradiated Container

The item card reads: “An irradiated container with unstable chemical residue. Must be decontaminated at the Haneul Nuclear Reactor.” Until that is done it will not open, and it sits in your backpack as a sealed Ultra item.

1. Take the Irradiated Container into the match: move it from your Stash into your backpack or a secure slot before you deploy.
2. Go to the Haneul Nuclear Reactor with radiation protection: Radiation Gear and a Gas Mask, plus Radiation Blockers if you have them.
3. At the HNR machine in Reactor 02, use Process Radioactive Material and wait while it processes.
4. Open the processed container like any other and take what you want.
5. Leave with protection to spare and head for your exfil.

The HNR machine in Reactor 02

It stands inside Reactor 02, the damaged reactor building with the broken-open roof at the Haneul Nuclear Reactor, on its east side beside a row of three small round tanks. It is a large rectangular machine marked HNR, with a radiation symbol. Walk up to it and the prompt reads Process Radioactive Material.

One way in, over the roof:

1. Find the exterior ladder beside the large pipe on Reactor 02 and climb it.
2. At the top, ride the zipline onto the broken roof.
3. Drop through the breach onto the yellow beam, watching for the guards below.
4. Head north-west along the beam to the interior door and go through into the open reactor hall.
5. Turn right at once: the HNR machine is in that corner.

Where to find an Irradiated Container

Chemical Storage is the one to farm: the yellow cabinets in clinics, at Chang-san Air Base and around the reactor. Every other kind of container, and what each is best for, is in our DMZ container loot guide.

How many Chemical Storages it takes

At about 1 in 24 a cabinet, your chance of at least one container grows like this:

So expect several runs: a route past many cabinets helps more than lingering in one spot.

What is inside

Eleven containers opened at the machine held:

Three of them in detail:

• A Large Secure Backpack (Ultra), the JOKR manual, a W.M.D. Manifest and the Vault Armory key.
• An Ultra MAR-9, the Kastov 762 manual, an Encrypted Archive and Ballistic Fabric.
• An Ultra APOC-338.

That makes it the steadiest source of Weapon Manuals in DMZ: the next best, a Weapons Locker, gives one about 1 in 21 times. A manual unlocks its gun only once you extract with it, as our Weapon Manuals guide explains, so open the container and get out rather than pushing on.
